This book! Whilst Gladys Mack isn’t known for book reviews, we’re definitely about all things emotions because that’s what gift giving is all about – right? So as I was saying, this book!

Milk & Honey written by author, poetess and spoken word performer Rupi Kaur is a New York Times Best Seller and I honestly know why. Described by Goodreads, and I couldn’t have said this better myself so cut and paste here….

milk and honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. It is about the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. It is split into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose, deals with a different pain, heals a different heartache.milk and honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

It came across my Instagram feed by a friend who was continually quoting from the book, each time I was so intrigued by her posts and eventually asked and looked into more. After reading the endless positive reviews online, I splashed out and purchased the book – this book!

Milk & Honey is broken up into 4 parts; the hurting, the loving, the breaking, the healing. I’m not really into poetry, but the words to describe certain feelings and emotions get you moving in many ways. There are so many strong messages contained within here’s a small snippet I wanted to share with you.

the hurting

how is it so easy for you to be kind to people he asked

milk and honey dripped from my lips as i answered

cause people have not been kind to meMilk & Honey - Gladys Mack - 1

she was a rose

in the hands of those

who had no intention

of keeping her

the loving

i am learning

how to love him

by loving myself

Milk & Honey - Gladys Mack - 2

love will come

and when love comes

love will hold you

love will call your name

and you will melt

sometimes though

love will hurt you but

love will never mean to

love will play no games

cause love knows life

has been hard enough already

the breaking

you were temptingly beautiful

but stung when i got close

you whisper

i love you

what you mean is

i don’t want you to leave

Milk & Honey - Gladys Mack - 3

the healing

if you were born with

the weakness to fall

you were born with

the strength to rise

of course i want to be successful

but i don’t crave success for me

i need to be successful to gain

enough milk and honey

to help those around

me succeed
